Dr. Neagoy’s experience with the design,
creation, and delivery of educational videos began back in 1996 when Tom
Rollins, Founder and CEO of The
Teaching Company, invited her to become part of the SperStar
Teacher Series. More specifically, The Teaching Company was in need
of an expert to conceive of a new, state-of-the-art video course on Algebra. Dr. Neagoy welcomed the challenge:
over a period of four months, she designed, created, and taught 30 thirty-minute
lessons, on video. To this day, her Algebra video series continues to
be a very popular mathematics course for the Teaching Company, www.teach12.com. Following
the success of her Algebra series, Dr. Neagoy was approached by the Program
Manager of the Annenberg/CPB Channel and asked to be one of four
national mathematics content experts for two separate programs for teachers:
one in mathematics (Mathematics: What's the Big Idea?),
the other in assessment (Assessment in Math and Science:
What's the Point?). In the late 1990s, these two eight-part series
were aired live on the Annenberg/CPB channel, allowing for live call-in
questions from sites across the country. Later, these series were edited
for video and are now available for sale at www.learner.org. Dr.
Neagoy has continued to provide her extensive experience and varied expertise
to numerous private and public organizations, dedicated to designing and
creating educational courses/programs for film, television, or video.
These include the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), for whom she had done a
variety of work over the years, Center City Film
and Video (CCFV) in
In November 2005, Dr. Neagoy’s MathMagic Show, an original creation, was filmed by Discovery Education. Once edited and combined
with a personal interview, it will be available for download at www.UnitedStreaming.com starting in
February 2006. Dr.
Neagoy’s areas of expertise include big-picture conception, creative writing,
technical writing, artistic delivery, multidisciplinary connections, especially
the connection between the arts and sciences.
“While
Algebra I was originally designed to target high school students,
many "returning adults" have purchased this course for their
own edification. We have received numerous letters and e-mail messages
from such customers praising not only the content and approach of the
course but also the excitement, passion, and expertise with which Dr.
Neagoy infects, injects, and infuses her audience.”

Dr. Neagoy was among
four national, mathematics content specialists selected by The Annenberg/CPB
Channel (www.learner.org)
to design, write, and teach eight live, interactive workshops broadcast
nationwide on the Annenberg/CPB Channel. Workshop titles include Data:
Posing Answers and Finding Questions, Algebra: It Begins in Kindergarten, and
The Future of Mathematics: Ferns and Galaxies.
The eight two-hour workshops were then edited and recorded, and are now
available on video as invaluable teacher resources.
“What do quilts have to do with palaces? When is a third more than a half? K-8 teachers of mathematics contemplate these and other provocative questions in the workshop, which offers motivation and tools for teachers who want to explore new ways of teaching math. Using a variety of models, activities, and video clips, this workshop encourages participants to reflect upon their own practice and discuss ideas for innovation in teaching.” The
